About

The Geometry, Robotics, and Dynamical Systems (GRaDS) Lab is a robotics and control research group in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), led by Dr. Adeel Akhtar. The lab was established in early 2025.

We study the geometric, nonlinear, and hybrid control foundations of intelligent robots, with applications spanning mobile and aerial robotics, drones, and safety-critical autonomous systems. Our work brings together differential geometry, nonlinear and hybrid systems theory, optimization, and stochastic dynamics to build robots that operate safely, reliably, and efficiently in the real world.
